Our Herbalism Program offers courses for those interested in exploring herbalism; for those wishing to gather the information to care for their families naturally; and for those wishing to pursue herbalism in a professional setting.
We approach Herbalism from an ecological perspective, cultivating a sustainable practice that focuses on medicinal plants of our bioregion. We study Western Herbalism with an emphasis on traditions indigenous to this continent, and look to eastern traditions, such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to deepen our study. We believe in a hands-on approach to learning, and work with the plants themselves, dried herbs, and herbal preparations to build our knowledge. We explore Herbalism holistically, recognizing that nutrition, exercise, stress management, and other holistic modalities offer us a full experience of health. We encourage our students to integrate their study into a personal practice, so they can benefit daily and master the material through first-hand experience.
Our Roots of Herbalism course is a six-week series that introduces herbalism to both experienced and lay people alike. It is an excellent course for those wishing to gain an introductory experience to herbalism, and empowers students with the knowledge, tools, and experience to continue their journey to natural, radiant wellbeing.
This course is the prerequisite course for our Family Herbalist Certification program. This program is a four-level course that empowers students to care for the everyday health imbalances they face as a family caretaker. It is an excellent program for those wishing to care for their children, their parents, and themselves fully and independently. We believe in preparing students to live in sustainable health. The four levels - Introduction, Intermediate, Advanced, and Practicum - provide students with a strong, comprehensive herbal education, covering over 200 herbs, herb cultivation, anatomy and physiology, alternative health modalities, plant chemistry and botany, nutrition, and a wide spectrum of herbal preparations and herbal medicine-making. Students who graduate from the four levels enter the world prepared to care for their families health through safe, natural, preventative, healing, and balancing avenues.
Completion of the four levels of the Family Herbalist Certification is the prerequisite for entering our Community Herbalist Certification program. The Community Herbalist Certification is tailored to individuals who wish to continue their herbal education, and is especially suited to those who wish to use herbalism in a professional setting, whether it is education, consultation, or integrating herbalism into an existing health profession.
The Community Herbalist Certification offers small, individualized groups for study and practicum. Students can tailor their education in the direction of emphasis they desire - cultivation, consultation, education, and preparations. Students work one-on-one with professional herbalists to explore the intricacies of the field and to find their heart's calling and their path. Students engage with the community in our Herbal Clinic, and learn from a variety of guest lecturers aside from their primary herbal mentors. These outside perspectives offer a diverse form of education. The Community Herbalist Certification can be taken in as few as eight months and as long as two years, depending on how accelerated of a program a student's lifestyle can accommodate. The Community Herbalist Certification empowers students who complete the program to integrate their knowledge of and experience in herbalism into a professional setting.
Following completion of the Community Herbalist program, we offer an intensive Master Herbalist Certification program. While not required to engage in professional herbalism, it is recommended for those who seek the fullest, deepest, most meaningful education possible in the field of herbalism. The Master Herbalist Certification takes our herbal education one step deeper and provides the tools and teachers to assist students in developing as mature herbalists. The Master Herbalist Certification is an individualized program and can be completed in programs ranging from one year to three years, given the rate at which students wish to enter into studies.
