Workshops are offered as individual classes for $25, or enjoy the entire series for $125. Students will be provided valuable, practical information to integrate into their daily lives. Must pre-register as course is limited to 15 students.
Workshop 1: Introduction to Sustainable Living
Students will complete the workshop with critical thinking tools to analyze “green” claims and take steps towards making their own lifestyles more sustainable. Students will explore theory and practice behind sustainable opportunities, and ways for citizens to adapt their lifestyle in ways to increase sustainability. Students will survey applicable green programs, evaluate their own ecological footprint, establish a baseline, and learn how to implement and measure changes to their impact on the environment.
Goals/Learning Objectives:
Understand principles of a “carbon footprint” and calculate one’s own carbon footprint using available online resources.
Understanding difference between sustainable practices and “greenwashing”
Understanding LEED principles and practices
Understanding Cradle-to-cradle principles and practices
Using currently available surveys, students will analyze their own ecological footprint. Such analysis will include:
Biologically productive area assessment
Waste assessment
Carbon analysis
Food analysis
Housing analysis
Goods and Services Analysis
Students taking these workshops will gain an understanding of sustainability related to landscape, architecture, and interior design, both for their own residences and for their community.
Each workshop explores a different question, and the workshops can be taken individually or as an entire class series.
