Description

THE FIRE DRAGON can be viewed as a symbol of the inflammatory process. The Sleeping Dragon is a quiet and effective guardian, constantly on the lookout for an invasion or injury- this wakes the dragon and she breaths the fire of Acute inflammation. Heat, redness, and swelling ensue, as white blood cells and other factors rush to the affected area and ultimately positively influence the healing process, after which the Sleeping Dragon goes back in her den. The Evil Dragon emerges when inflammation becomes chronic, with a ‘slow burn’ that leads to a breakdown in cell structure that has been linked to most degenerative health issues. Societies around the globe have experimented with natural remedies that modulate inflammation for centuries. Current Scientific evidence supports many of these traditional therapeutics, which often have a much better risk to benefit profile than conventional drugs.

Recent research is identifying polyphenolic compounds that modulate the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by human lymphocytes, and how human SNP variations can lead to differential outcomes in inflammatory processes. In this presentation we will discuss the basic etiology and range of substantiated natural constituents that may help prevent or ameliorate inflammation.
