Stovetop Hydrosols and Lotions with Jaime Pawelek – November 2, 2024
$40.00
In this class we will learn how to make hydrosols using an easy stovetop method, then blend together a luxurious lotion. Hydrosols, or floral waters, are typically the byproduct of essential oil production, but using equipment you likely already have in your kitchen, Jaime will demonstrate how to make a small-batch aromatic plant distillation. Using the hydrosol and an herbal oil that we made in a previous class, we will then learn how to blend up a nourishing lotion.

Description
This class will explore the variety of herbs that lend themselves to producing deliciously aromatic floral waters (aka hydrosols), as well as their benefits and many uses. We will demonstrate an easy distillation method using one of the fragrant plants from our garden. One of the many uses of hydrosols is in the making of lotions, which are basically an emulsion of oil and water. Jaime will briefly describe the method for making herbal oils and some of the best plants to use. You will then learn how to combine your hydrosol with herbal oils to create a beautiful lotion. Folks will take home a small jar of lotion and the knowledge of how to create both a stovetop hydrosol and homemade lotion. Creating products from plants that you tended is very empowering and satisfying, not to mention healthier for you as you know and understand all the ingredients that went into their production. This is a great time of year to learn these new skills so you have time to make and share your own products for the holidays!
